Hello, world!
Since I don't write full reviews for every books I read (at least not yet), I decided that I'm going to do monthly wrap-ups. Generally, I try to do a short Goodreads reviews so I remember what I liked/didn't like about each book. So at the end of each month (or beginning, depending on how well I keep on top of things), I will compile those little reviews and post them here! Here is my October 2021 Wrap-Up 1. Melissa’s Story by Alex Gino 5 out of 5 stars I don't know why it took me so long to read Melissa's Story. This book is so sweet, heartbreaking, and heartwarming. I loved it. 2. Beetle & the Hollowbones by Aliza Layne 4 out of 5 stars This was so much fun! And I loved Blob Ghost! 3. Like Other Girls by Britta Lundin 4 out of 5 stars I really enjoyed this. I wanted to shake Mara sometimes, but that was the point. And as someone who went through a "I'm not like other girls" phase, I saw myself some. I think this is a really important message and it's done well. 4. Continuum by Chella Man 4 out of 5 stars I really enjoyed Chella's perspective on identity and the idea that it is a continuum. 5. Squad by Maggie Tokuda-Hall 4 out of 5 stars This was a fun, gritty, quick read. I really enjoyed it! 6. House of Hollow by Krystal Sutherland 2 out of 5 stars I didn't dislike this book. It was interesting and spooky and really beautifully written. But I'm just not super excited about it. I also had one issue with it... ***SPOILERS*** I get that Grey was trying to protect them, but I just can't get past her influencing people to take their own lives. I really have a problem with that. 7. Skate for Your Life by Leo Baker 5 out of 5 stars I really liked this look into the gendered world of skateboarding. It was a perspective I haven't read before. 8. Why We Fly by Kimberly Jones and Gilly Segal 4 out of 5 stars This was a really great and timely book. I like that we had two different perspectives of the same issue and how it explored the consequences each faced (or didn't). 9. Other Boys by Damian Alexander 5 out of 5 stars This book. It's a heartbreaking story of grief and identity. It was beautiful. 10. No Exit by Taylor Adams 3 out of 5 stars This book is a wild ride. It didn't go in the direction I was expecting, which was good. But it was also just a bit much at times. But overall, it was thrilling and I had to know how it would end. 11. As Good As Dead by Holly Jackson 2 out of 5 stars So, I absolutely loved the first 250 pages or so. But then the second half just lost me.
